We placed third in our last race of the day versus two mixed teams and another women's team.
This was a really fun venue for us. The rain stayed away for most of the day and we even saw some sunshine. There's only so long we will wait for official results. We will update this later with times if they become available. Looks like we're not the fastest women's team after all. We raced a few of the others in the last race and came in third in a close one. Another race in a couple of hours!
Well, that was exciting! We're now off the water after first race of the season. Well, first and second. Due to a collision (not our fault, we were in the middle) with two other boats about halfway through, we had to turn around and rerace. We were racing three other mixed teams, so our time was the slowest of the heat, but overall it looks like we have the fastest women's time of the morning. We'll be racing again shortly, probably within the hour.
Out of 30 teams, the Flies finished 6th overall to end a wonderful race season. See you in the beer garden for the end of season celebration.
Fall/Winter paddling starts Thursday. New paddlers are welcome! With a time of 2:11:45, the 'Flies take third with a big surge at the finish line. Sixth best time from Semifinals.
Consolation race, Heat 74, lane 2 scheduled at 2:00 with the Saggin Dragons, DragonSprites, and Sirens. Great day to be an OWLS Dragonfly! OWLS Dragonflies finished first in Heat 27 and our combined times qualified for 6th place overall.
Race between the bridges today at 4:30. 2000 meters, 4 turns. Sunday we race in Women's Division A Semi-Finals: Heat 50, Lane 4 at 9:30. Depending on semi-final results, the 'Flies race a second time on Sunday at 2:00 or 2:10. Good morning race fans! The OWLS Dragonflies took first in Heat 3 surging ahead mid-race and finishing strong.
The team will race again in Heat 27 from lane 2 at 1:50. Grab a chair or a picnic blanket and come down to waterfront park for the Portland Dragon Boat Festival. The top 8 women's teams will compete in a race around the bridges at 4:30 today. Stop by tent 12 to show your support, and wish the team well before the next qualifying race. Seeding for Sunday is based on placements today, with time as the tie breaker. Women's Division races tomorrow 8:30-9:40 and 1:00-2:10. Can't make it out in person? We want to hear from you in the comments. |
